Who We Are: The Spokane Independent Metro Business Alliance (SIMBA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit creating a strong, locally-focused economy in Spokane and Eastern Washington through organizing, education, direct support, and advocacy to entrepreneurs, small business owners, and consumers. SIMBA’s mission is to empower and enrich entrepreneurs, micro- and small businesses, and local consumers through education, community engagement, and advocacy throughout Spokane and Eastern Washington. 

Position Description: The Business District Liaison is responsible for supporting organizational development for the Garland Business District, the North Monroe Business District, and the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, with all work managed and led by SIMBA. The Business District Liaison will engage in outreach and capacity building support, board support and development, volunteer management and engagement, refining best practices and policies, stakeholder consultation, and developing a toolkit of resources for Spokane neighborhoods. The Business District Liaison will also provide in person outreach services directly for SIMBA.

Duties Include:

  • Direct and/or virtual outreach with neighborhood district leadership and the businesses and property owners therein, including data management and reporting regarding the same

  • Engagement and collaboration with with key City of Spokane and regional nonprofit and commercial partners 

  • Create and update Board handbooks and policies in conjunction with leadership

  • Coordinate Board meetings and maintain records of the same

  • Event planning and volunteer coordination and management

  • Creating and implementing systems and processes for Board management and volunteer recruitment

  • Developing toolkits and identify business and neighborhood resources for neighborhoods and the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation

  • Small business canvassing and outreach to promote SIMBA programs and services

  • Data management and reporting regarding project updates and outreach efforts

Desired Education & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field is highly-desired or equivalent experience

  • Understanding of Spokane Neighborhoods, with specific emphasis on the North Monroe and Garland Business Districts, and surrounding communities, particularly as to the business communities therein

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail

  • Experience with public speaking in small-to-medium sized groups

  • Ability to self-start and motivate and to balance competing task assignments for multiple projects simultaneously

  • Knowledge of Google Suite, HubSpot, Asana, Harvest, Canva, and/or related software platforms

  • A reliable vehicle and reliable home internet 

  • Ability to walk up and down three flights of stairs, walk two (2) miles, and lift up to 25 lbs. on a limited basis

  • Awareness of and experience with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion concepts and best practices

  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations, Board management, grant writing, and grant reporting is preferred, but not required

Wages and Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt salary position with a flexible working schedule for a period of up to ten months

  • Salary will be $5,426.67 per month

  • Generous PTO and paid holidays

  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance available after sixty (60) days

  • Parking and/or bus stipend of $60/m

  • SIMPLE IRA with a 3% match available after 30 days of employment 

  • Staff are provided with laptops & cell phones


    Other: This position will require in-person work in downtown Spokane, the Garland Business District, the North Monroe Business District, and surrounding counties, so being located in Spokane or being able to regularly commute to Spokane is required. Some work may be done in a hybrid manner as directed by SIMBA. Occasional night and weekend work may be required.
